5 Online Style Retailers Talk Shop
Friday, 03 September 2010
Image

An interview by Complex with 5 online style retailers talking about what’s changed, why it’s better, and what to expect in the future from the business.

Complex: What’s unique about your store?

Chris Gibbs (Union): We’re the only ones carrying most of our brands in the whole country. Jason Ross (Jack Threads): The photography, models, and styling are kept in line with how the brand portrays itself. We essentially have two customers: the consumer and the brand. Sky Gellatly (Flight Club): We’re consignment: 80% goes to the seller, 20% to the store. Our staff has to be knowledgeable. They set prices based on demand and market value. There are new variables every day. Greg Selkoe (Karmaloop): The fact that a lot of celebrities shop on our site and are supportive. We’ve worked with Kanye and Kid Cudi, who have had a huge influence. Jason Griffiths (TOPMAN): We impact new fits and styles. We were the first to deliver short, cropped, fitted blazers. And we’re now leading with carrot-legged trousers.

Jean Touitou @ Interview

"...COOKE: With all the digital access, it’s hard to stay on top of everything, and a lot of things aren’t so new, really, ideas-wise.

TOUITOU: Yes, but still the same good tricks always work. We’re talking about pop culture and popular music and it only takes a good guitar riff and good organ riff and a bass line. The subject matter is timeless. That’s the great thing about pop culture. It’s always there for somebody to do a good piece. You can do a shitty piece, and a lot of it is, but it’s okay, and if you’re 17 it’s new anyway...."

QUIRK IT! INTERVIEW
Tuesday, 02 December 2008
Image

A little interview with them boys from Quirk It! in conjunction with the celebration of their Birthday Gang Bang this Saturday night at Prost Kemang. Here it goes.

Who's who in Quirk It!?
There are 5 of us. Ridwan, Gerhan, Aditya, Heru and Leo.

How do you guys met and how it lead to Quirk It!?
Natural progression kayaknya. We kinda turn on by so many good music from our friends, then be in that environment. We started talking about doing party while we were hanging out and next thing we know, we got the sound system, dope logo, and the rest just happened every month on a Saturday night.

What is Quirk It!? What defines Quirk It! signature sound/ style?
Disko sosis yang sensual?? Heheheheh. That name has an attitude. Punk or Disco or Acid House have an attitude. We have to describe our music attitude. It's a good word to describe music without bluntly saying it what it is. That way we can play whatever we want as long as it sounds good on the floor. That's our attitude.

INTERVIEW: RONALD KURNIAWAN
Friday, 06 June 2008

"A Buffoon on AN Island" - Acrylic on birch

Ronald Kurniawan and his parents moved from Indonesia to LA when he was a little kid. Growing up, he originally wanted to became a surgeon but then realized a little unfortunate detail that he actually could’t stand seeing blood. He probably used to have some pals who teased and called him a baby for that. But who cares, he totally redeemed himself by graduating with honors from a renowned art school and continue to create amazing works that juxtapose beasts, letterforms and symbols with epic landscape in moody colors and childlike playfulness. Which could also came out as the most impressive painting of a blue-balled baboon in the world. From the vault, we give you our little interview with RK (that’s what he like to be called—knew that from some magazine).

Whatnot: Hey RK, how's it going? What you been up to right now?
RK: Doing well…a little hectic right now because I'm trying to wrap up a commercial for Microsoft and doing an event for the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in the summer... while working on an animation for Dreamworks.

Hallo Mouly. Sekarang "Fiksi" lagi dalam tahap apa? Dan kapan bakal dirilisnya?

Hallo juga. Fiksi sekarang lagi dalam tahap-tahap akhir post production, yaitu tinggal finalize audio mixing dan grading. Salah satu tahap yang bikin deg-degan sih secara disinilah kita baru liat the film as a whole jadi satu gitu, with the score and everything. Terus tinggal di blow-up ke 35mm.. abis itu melewati LSF sebelum nantinya tayang di bioskop-bioskop tanggal 19 Juni 2008 :)
