We can now have a look inside the latest Ace Hotel in downtown LA. Situated within the United Artists building, which originally opened in 1927 as a film studio, the hotel’s aesthetic has been described as a marriage between 1920′s Hollywood glamour and modern-day minimalism. To fit out the interior of the 180-room space, Ace worked alongside local collective Commune Design, who pulled inspiration from Rudolf Schindler’s residence in West Hollywood, “interpreting” the original building and carefully cleaning and restoring original features. Additional touches include Ace x Revo Radios, wings+horns bathrobes, bath products from Rudy’s Barbershop, Pearl+. Noguchi lamps, and Pendleton blankets woven in a Mondrian-esque pattern. On the roof you’ll find “Upstairs” – an indoor/outdoor lounge and pool inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright’s famous Ennis House, Donald Judd’s pool in Marfa, and the Hollywood night spot Les Deux Café. A sunken concrete bar is complimented by a large steel light installation by Michael Schmidt, while ceramic lanterns hang from a coral tree to draw focus to the warm outdoor fireplace. Prices begin at $249 USD per night.
