In life, there’s cool, there’s vintage Ferrari cool, and there’s Steve McQueen’s Vintage Ferrari cool. Somehow condensing all the cool that ever existed into one package, Steve McQueen’s 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 is going up for auction this summer.

The classic “Chianti Red” two-seater features wheels from his Ferrari NART Spyder (which he had crashed) and a custom driver’s wing mirror, retractable antenna, and seat trim. It was delivered to McQueen while he was on the set of Bullitt and became the only Ferrari in his car collection up until 1971, when he sold it to fellow actor Guy Williams.

The car was later transformed from a coupe to a convertible, but has been restored for a six-figure sum by its current owner Vern Schuppan, an Australian-born Le Mans winner, who is now selling it. Speaking about the car, Max Girado, of RM Auctions, said: “When it comes to cars with celebrity provenance, it doesn’t get any better than this.”

Although the car would normally cost about £1.5 million, it is expected this model will reach up to £8 million. The auction is taking place in Monterey, California on 15 August.
